To Us

Disclaimer: This is to notify that the following lines have been copied by me from a magazine because I absolutely love them. They happen to be a part of an advertisement of Sunsilk. These lines are for those very special, fiery, precious, important, elegant and beautiful creatures called GIRLS. Yep. To us.
Here goes:

It’s a gang of short black skirts.
It’s a gang of way too many shoes.
It’s a gang of how sweets and so cutes.
It’s a gang of over-used weighing scales.
It’s a gang of fat-free, sugar-free, calorie-free dessert.
It’s a gang of hearts beating for Bon Jovi.
It’s a gang of sniffles in the middle of Casablanca.
It’s a gang of long phone calls and longer phone bills.
It’s a gang of nervous breakdown over chipped fingernails.
It’s a gang of busy trail rooms.
It’s a gang of sighs outside a diamond store.
It’s a gang of purple face packs answering the door.
It’s a gang of giggles, whispers, squeals, sobs, shrieks
and stubborn silences.
It’s a gang of girls.

THE STORY OF DISTRESSED DENIMS

When you have a lot of time at hand, you tend to analyse things, people or maybe your own self. Likes, dislikes, styles etcetera etcetera. I have discovered a bohemian side of me, of which I wasn’t unaware but never did/made any special efforts to contribute towards it. Now with ample time, I am/have been conducting various (disastrous?)  experiments with my existing wardrobe.

I started off with scrapping a small part of my favourite pair of jeans. But I made a big mistake by scrapping up the wrong part i.e. near the knee. The jeans being tight-fit got totally torn at the knee!!! Not that I mind, but my dad sure does.

Well, I am planning to cover the torn portion from inside with a cloth (white) or maybe just crop them into shorts (any suggestions from your side are welcome!).

Now no more an amateur, I have mastered the art of distressing the denims. Here are some shots of my masterpiece. (It is still in the process of being distressed).

The instrument:pumice stone
Kindly don’t underestimate the job; it requires a lot of patience and perseverance. It takes hours and hours (well okay, I am over-exaggerating) actually minutes of scrapping softly the material with a pumice stone. To achieve the desired “natural” look you have to take care to not go overboard. Cool no?

Finally, I also cropped another pair of jeans. And knowing me, you would have probably guessed that I am putting the residual material to some very good use! Here is the “before” part:

And voila!

I have a thing for bows actually…! The following pictures will explain my fixations.

I had fun doing all this even though my parents have stating having doubts about my sanity! But as long as I am having fun with it, I say hallelujah.

FOR A PAIR OF SHOES...!

<

By now dear friends you must have gathered by my posts the fact that I have a serious shoe fetish. But contrary to the title of this post the truth is that this particular post has nothing to do remotely with me or my precious pair of shoes. It’s actually about the importance of shoes. Not for people like me, to whom it merely is a maddening madness to buy. Sometimes just for the sake of it. Irrespective of the fact whether or not you would be wearing them sometime in near future. Shoes to go with just one outfit. Sheer wastage. But we don’t seem to mind. Atleast I don’t. Well maximum times. Sometimes I do, but that doesn’t stop me from repeating the same things all over again.

My point in describing this whole procedure of money spending is that there are people who are desperate for a pair of shoes. Sharing a same pair of old, torn shoes between siblings. Ready to do just about anything for a pair of shoes. That innocent some mere 8 years of age mind working vigorously night and day to somehow manage a pair of shoes. I don’t know whether or not you have seen this movie called bum bum bhole starring child actors. The way the movie captures the innocence of a child is marvellous and worth commending. The race sequence in which the boy thinks of coming third because the third price is a brand new pair of adidas shoes...! All this trouble for a pair of shoes.

I too take up many troubles for a pair of shoes but the sole reason behind their trouble and mine is as different as cheese and chalk. It’s not just about the movie but the fact that what is shown in it actually strikes a chord. Because it’s true. Such children are all around us.

And we think that a child has it all so easy. It have often heard (sometimes I have myself used the words) “oh, what fun to be a child once again, to be all carefree, no worries........”. But the truth is different (I think..!) a child is vulnerable in so many ways. His/her worries may be foolish, mindless even, but to him they can mean the end of the world. After all he is so helpless and dependent and a mere child. If we adults have a task/trouble ahead of us we know what steps to use to tackle it. but that’s not the case with the young one. To add to the woes is the tremendous peer pressure that every child faces. I have passed that stage and I know it’s terrible to be in it. Our self esteem and confidence are all at stake. I feel the pressure just keeps on increasing year by near. Poor children. Adding to their woes are the new class of upper middles class families with their children spoilt rotten with all the gadgets, best clothes, great shoes (!!!) that their money can buy. Partially this is to bury the guilt of both working parents. The children whose parents cannot afford all these luxuries are many a times the butt of many a jokes. Little rich boys and girls can get a tad bit nasty....!

Well it’s very and very important to have a good sound upbringing and to be strongly grounded to your roots. So all those who have children at home, please be good and try to understand them between the silence and tantrums.

SHOE FETISH........!

Some go ga-ga over bags while others have a soft corner for dresses. Its shoes, shoes and more shoes for me. I do buy new shoes quite often but i never ever shy away from experimenting with my old discarded ones. I strongly believe in recycling and renovating. Also its a great way to pass your time (if you have). well these days i have oodles of it....!

I had successfully done such an experiment some time back, with a pair of old ballerinas. originally silver in colour, i changed them into hot pink ones......!

The most recent experiment was made today.....! And i quite love the results, so just couldn't wait to share it...!

Cute aren't they....! I have used brown ribbons for the tie-ups. Glitterly ribbons for the making the flower (rose). Believe it or not, most of the time was spent in making the damn flower (rose). Not so sattisfied with the result, but nevermind.!

I m still discovering various ways to tie the tie-ups......! Can't wait to wear and flaunt it.

Do let me know, are they worth the effort.....??

Have You Figured It Out Yet....!!!

How are we supposed to live...?!
Live each moment like it was your last...!! Go out have a blast (it rhymes..!!). Do what you feel like, eat, party, travel, shop, dance, make a career...etc etc..!! After all you get only one life time to do all this ...right...? Yeah...most of you will agree with this...!!

But..... Think again....!!!

Is that all...!! Are we here only for this purpose or is there some deeper meaning surrounding our existence. Now I don’t want to sound like some religious teacher or a spiritual preacher but I kinda have this going in my mind since past few days (call it the exam approaching syndrome)....!

On a serious note there must be some purpose, some motive which we have to fulfil, for which we have been given this precious human life. I am not suggesting going to some baba/guru for this gyan about “motive”. And I also know that we are the gen-next comprising of “work harder party harder kinda” people , who care “two hoots” about “why we are here”.... !!But life is also not a  rat race errrr mice race (courtesy 5 point someone) mindlessly running in the same direction just as everybody else.

I read this article where a journalist describes his experience visiting the kumbh mela on the banks of Ganga. Initially he explains he was sceptical about going into the river because of the dirt etc. Nevertheless he decides to give it a try. The priest tells him the procedure. Go into the river, take a handful of water, throw it over your head, think about your ancestors and yeah take a dip...simple enough..! So the guy goes ahead with the task on this very cold January morning remembering the last time he was here with his dad to immerse the ashes of his mother. He takes the water in his hands throws it above his head thinking about his mother. He remembers her smiling face and it spreads warmth inside him. He thought about his old father at home.. One day he would come here to immerse his ashes. Then one day he would die too and his son would come to immerse his ashes and son would too die one day and the cycle would continue.... he suddenly realised that his job, the deadlines meant nothing, they had absolutely no meaning, when he would be gone no one would care...!!

Within a few minutes he understood what he had failed to understand in a number of years.

After reading this article I realised that life is not about getting that “sexy pair of shoes” , “the drop dead gorgeous dress” and that “to die for jeans”. When I die all the things are staying here “the degree, the job, the cellfone, money, lappy”. Hell even the sexy pair of shoes...!! SAD ( I know....!!) but true.....!!
That’s how life is ...... it kicks you the moment u thing u have figured it out...!!life's what you make it, so lets make it right..!
and as they say : “life is a climb............but the view is great”..!!
So let’s keep climbing keeping our eyes open for that special motive we are here for...!!

p.s this post is written in a sleepy state so kindly don’t mind my words of wisdom :P
